Veera OCT Concept WIP by Riyami Veera OCT Concept WIP by Riyami
WIP Concept for the upcoming OCT :iconriseoct:

An alien girl (I'm thinking of calling her race K'takzyl) by the name of Veera. She is an outlaw looking for redemption, and is trying to free her home world from the rule of a madman.

She mainly uses a type of energy pistol and a pair of kinetic ion blades (the kind that have a handle on them like a nightstick) She is well versed in guerrilla warfare and hand to hand combat. The long semi-prehensile tendril on the back of her head acts as her strongest limb, and she has a thicker neck to support the additional weight, and possibly enables her to hang from the tendril.

She has a Anti-gravity skimmer (To be shown later) that acts as her personal transport. It houses a built in AI that helps Veera and can also remotely access her skimmer via the AI's ability to be held within her Nano-circuit suit. She also has minor cybernetic implants to help with interfacing with technology and her bike / suit.

The bike itself has a few energy cannons on it, as well as about 7-8 adjustable thrusters to give it incredible speed and maneuverability. The bike's armor is light to medium, seeing as it's only a personal craft, however it can save itself from heavy damage with its Preemptive Defense Array: Several (3) panels of hard light holograms that can act as a reactive preliminary defense. They are reactive in the fact that they can predict trajectories and move themselves accordingly to shield the skimmer and the driver.

Veera is able to use the PDA shields away from her skimmer, but is only able to generate 1 shield for personal use. The shields aren't impenetrable, and when they absorb a certain amount of force, they CAN and WILL short out.

Hopefully I can get the Ref sheet and Audition done soon, but this is basically what is going to be there.

 CRITIQUES WELCOME!

Thanks for looking! Wish me luck with my first OCT attempt! D:

Can I ask you a question? Any advice on drawing aliens in shapes and color wise?

A good thing to do when you design an alien is to think about things that make it look like it does, primarily things like how does it move, what environment does it live in? What does it eat, and make it's anatomy and colors fit those reasons. So if an alien primarily moves around by jumping, it would have thick strong legs versus a swimming one that may have thin finned legs.  If something lives in a primarily forest area, it would probably have lots of earthen greens or browns with light / dark patterns for camouflage, or a light colored underbelly and a dark back color for sea dwelling aliens.

But It doesn't have to match earth based colors, if that particular planet had forests of green and blue trees, then the animals and aliens would probably match those kinds of colors to blend in.

I would love to use this character in a sci-fi screen play I'm writing. The character is just so interesting. I would abviously give credit for your work and paid if the screenplay hits the screens.

Unfortunately, I am still uncomfortable with letting other people use my characters/artwork for their own projects. (Most of them are used in my own personal role play and story writing.) I would like to kindly ask that you not use Veera in your project.

But Thank you so much for asking first. I really appreciate it.

Thank you for responding. I understand. Your artwork is really good. You should have it copyrighted because some people won't ask to use your work. If you have it copyrighted, than people can't take your work and would have to buy it from you. Keep drawing.

I'm completely enamored by this subject.

She looks lean and fast, built for speed. Yet ironically it looks like the tendril would weigh her down a bit and cause some balance problems.
WOULD hurt to get hit by that thing though.

Interesting lack of mammary glands but still retains feminine shape.
+16 awesomeness pts.
(I don't think breasts would work well on an amphibious race though)

Your character designs kick my ass, I hope you know. ): My ass hurts. Fix it. D<

But yeah, your color design is spot on, and colorful with out being gaudy, or... shiney bubblegum anime-y. Yes.
I suck, but you get what I mean.

This thing is cool, I want to make it in Spore or something. Headtails ftw (even if that one would definitely cause neck problems if it's fleshy).

Simultaneously, however, it makes me lament the lack of really alien aliens about. Points for lack of mammaries, though!

I purposefully made her neck thicker than I normally would to support the weight of the tendril.

I was thinking they are more akin to lizards than anything, so she's got pectoral muscles, but no bewbs. (her skin is thick like leather, but not scaly. And I was thinking their young are able to eat solid foods as soon as they are born, or within a short period of it.)

Really alien looking aliens are kind of scarce, but then again people I think like to stay with something familiar and physically known to work.

Yikes, that's actually thicker than usual? Seriously, her neck would have to be HUGE to properly support the weight of that tendril, it being heavily muscled and powerful as it is, and /thicker than the neck itself/, which would have to be incredibly strong in order to support anything the tendril might pick up and toss around, including herself.

I think about these things alot, and it's one of the reasons I like to see what people come up with for their starfish aliens (this [link] is a good example). While most people like to stick with what they know, we're already /inundated/ with what we know. I like it when people try something new, and put a lot of thought into it.

...Stop making me want to draw aliums when I has exams. DX MONSTERFEETS.

That out of the way, I really like her design. I know you were talking about her the other day, but... Ooh, she's pretty, for one. XD I like the tendrilthing, but there's something awkward about it. I can't put my finger on what, though. Granted, an alien race doesn't need to conform to fluidity as perceived by humans, so you could very well leave it be and there be nothing wrong with it.

I really like the longer forearms (totally not because I do that with my own spacebabies. Shh), and the fact that she's got bitty arms, too. It'd be really interesting to see how she uses them, and how they function in tandem.

...and I want to nom on her feets.

It looks probably off center because of how I drew the hair on the other side. I had a few other people in a chat point it out too so I'll fix it in later drawings. The hair (I'm not sure if it's hair or something else yet) Grows out only on the sides of the head because the tendril is taking up much of the top and back of the head. (Think like buu from DBZ *dies at horrible yet perfect analogy*)

Therefore, since there's so little hair on these aliens it is considered very appealing for the females to have long thick hair.

I noticed the hair thing (and it's all Buu's fault, too D8), but there was still the awkward bit. I think it might be the size of the tendril as compared to her head, which in this case would just be unusual anatomy, hence the whole "human perception of aliumssss" thing. XD So that's understandable. But. It should totally be really thing needle-y things. Because I'm a DORK.

Man I'm liking this, I'm jealous of your anatomy/perspective skills :)

Couple of criticisms however, I reckon the upper arms would look much better if the forearms weren't as long.

Secondly, to me, she looks like she's part of a very gracious and elegant race and the head tail just doesn't fit with that, maybe shrink/thin it down? Mess around with it but I think something more elegant wouldn't go amiss :)

Those two points aside, I love it, awesome stuff :D

Thanks so much for the feedback!

I can see your point with the arms and Tendril, however I was thinking that the tendril is thick because it is used as another limb (a fairly strong one at that) Therefore the muscle would be thicker and heavier, which in turn is why her neck is thicker, to support the weight. Another reason might be the militaristic aspect of the society producing more athletic / built body types.

And as for her arms, I wanted to try and make her humanoid but still not human, that and I just like the elongated arms as a design element.

They're omnivorous, so maybe they got such long arms to reach the fruit on the trees? :B

That's fantastic, great colour choice and design. It feels somewhere between the (forgot the race name) pointy headed people from Mass Effect and the Sovani from Last Remnant with just a dash of Protoss.

I'd love to see something like that in motion, given It communicates so well as a still image.

Oddly enough, I've decided to try and use her for my flash animation processes class. I'm going to try my hand at making an animated character sheet via symbol puppetry.

Hopefully it won't suck XD. I love animating in flash, but I HATE hard coding.

well you might want to look at [link] a lot of their animating is stop frame but they've got some really great usage of symbol puppetry as well

Yeah, I've got them on my watch list as well. I really admire the action scenes and animation, makes me wonder how the heck they do it. e.e

Hopefully I can get to that level one day. until then, I'm just another starry eyed aspirer. :wow:
